China’s Enamelled Wire Industry Faces Weak September Demand Amid Copper Price Volatility

According to Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), China's enamelled wire industry recorded a comprehensive operating rate of 67.42% in September 2026, down 0.53 percentage points month on month and 0.70 percentage points year on year.

The weaker-than-expected performance reflected subdued demand from the home appliance sector, fluctuations in copper prices and tight copper rod supply in parts of southern China. High raw material costs also encouraged downstream customers to adopt more cautious purchasing strategies.

Despite the overall slowdown, demand from power transformers and new energy-related applications remained relatively stable. This divergence highlights the importance of monitoring end-market demand across different industrial sectors.

SMM forecast an operating rate of 66.17% for October, reflecting holiday-related production adjustments and continued pressure from elevated copper prices. The forecast suggested that the traditional seasonal peak might not translate into a strong recovery in demand.

For magnet wire manufacturers and international buyers, these developments underscore the importance of raw material cost management, inventory control and market diversification.
